How To Learn Yoga From Home

How to learn yoga from home as opposed to learning yoga at a yoga studio will depend entirely on you. Doing yoga at home can be a fun and exhilarating experience. However, there are few things you should be aware of before you should start practicing yoga at home.

How To Learn Yoga From Home On Your Own

Learning to perform yoga on your own can seem like a difficult challenge. It can feel incredibly overwhelming at times because you don’t know where to begin. You have several ideas running through your mind but don’t where to go. You suddenly realize that yoga isn’t as easy as you had initially thought it would be. Your head just spins in all different directions. You realize you don’t know what you’re doing as a result.

Yoga is not something you can just jump in head first. It’s not uncommon to hear many who tried yoga but wound up quitting in the end. Some will attempt to practice yoga while others will stick to it for awhile. Others will eventually give up for lack of interest. Therefore, yoga is not necessarily for everyone. However, there are those who will have long-term success with yoga.

Many no longer practice yoga due to the lack of guidance and instruction. You can’t learn yoga by merely figuring it out. Between the various postures, breathing techniques, spiritual meanings, and more is difficult to ascertain on your own. You will need an experienced person to show you how to perform them correctly. This is where a certified yoga instructor will play a crucial role in your learning of yoga successfully.

How To Learn Yoga From Home With Yoga Instructors

Yoga instructors will spend years of training, studying, and practicing the art of yoga. They will gather hours upon hours of yoga training. The minimum of 200 hours is part of the certification requirement to become one. The more hours of training the instructors receive, the more skilled they become at yoga teaching.

Yoga instructors will guide and support students during yoga practice. They help students learn poses, apply correct forms, and breathing techniques. Some will explore the spiritual philosophy of yoga as well. The instructors are there to support you at every stage of yoga practice.

Certified yoga instructors will teach group classes, workshops, and one-on-one classes. Yoga studios, fitness centers, and personal studios are where they will teach yoga. They now even teach online yoga classes for those wanting to practice yoga at home. Streaming yoga videos and downloadable yoga videos are more in demand today. They are readily available to access on a home computer or smartphone for immediate training.

You will discover slight variations in classes taught by certified yoga instructors. Each instructor may add a little twist of something different to the yoga exercise routine. They intentionally do this to keep the interest of students from waining. I’ve seen various elements included in the classes where the instructor included fitness cardio for example to the yoga routine. You will have to decide on the yoga class that will capture or peak your interest the most.

How To Learn Yoga From Home With Spiritual Meaning

How To Learn Yoga From Home With Comfort and SatisfactionYou should educate yourself on the spiritual aspect of yoga as well. I’m not suggesting you have to immerse in the spiritual facet of yoga or feel forced into a religion. You just want to be able to piece together the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of yoga as a whole. The more knowledge you can possess the better you will understand and advance as a student of yoga.

There are eight limbs of yoga that you can learn to master with time.

“These eight steps basically act as guidelines on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. They serve as a prescription for moral and ethical conduct and self-discipline; they direct attention toward one’s health; and they help us to acknowledge the spiritual aspects of our nature.” www.yogajournal.com

  1. Yama: universal morality
  2. Niyama: personal observances
  3. Asanas: body postures
  4. Pranayama: breathing exercises and control of prana, life force energy
  5. Pratyahara: control of the senses
  6. Dharana: concentration and cultivating inner perceptual awareness

  • I know from my own experience how difficult it is to learn yoga at home. I’ve tried in the past but then quit as you mentioned. I now do it with my spouse, so we support each other in continuing with it. We currently follow some videos on YouTube but they are not consistent. We may need to look into Yoga classes you have on your site like Yoga International. Is there an online Yoga course that you would suggest?
    Thanks
    Paul

    • Hi Paul,

Yoga does require the right guidance and proper instruction to learn it correctly. The certified yoga instructors from Yoga International have spent years of learning and perfecting the postures alone while getting educated on the mental and spiritual aspect of yoga as well.

I strongly suggest getting the basics of yoga established first. Try their Experience Free 30 Days Of Yoga to get started. After you signed up for FREE, type in the search section of the site “Yoga For Beginners” that will lead you to the beginner lessons. Once you get the yoga fundamentals down, you can then advance to the next levels of yoga exercises.

I wish you the best of success and thank you for contacting us. Feel free to contact us again for anything else. Enjoy the yoga classes! James

  • Thanks for sharing this information. It’s good to know that Yoga isn’t as easy as common aerobic classes. I’ve often wondered what a Yoga class was like. The information you share in this article is very helpful in my research about the training. If I ever decide to try it, I know not to do it by watching a You Tube video, but rather, find a certified trainer who can walk me through how to properly perform the breathing techniques, postures, and understand the spiritual side of the exercise.

    • Hi Chandra,

Yoga is a physical art form that requires proper training through guidance and instruction. It’s essential to connect with an experienced certified yoga instructor to reap the benefits yoga provides. The mental and spiritually is another aspect of yoga that will require direction as well.

I’m glad you were able to learn how vital a certified yoga instructor will play a crucial role if you should take up yoga someday. • I always thought that doing yoga at home was as simple as doing aerobics. Based on your explanation, it clearly seems you still need a skilled instructor to take you through it. I just had no idea as to what it takes to do yoga. I better get a good instructor before I even think of trying to do it by myself at home. I prefer to do yoga at home because of my work schedule. Can you recommend a great source where I can get yoga instructions?

    • Hello Anita,

You are not alone in regards to performing yoga on your own. It’s very common for those considering to take up yoga don’t realize how much there is to learn about yoga.

I highly recommend for you to connect with a certified yoga instructor to give you the proper guidance and instructions. It’s not uncommon for many wanting to learn yoga at home and don’t have the time or finances to attend a local yoga studio. • This is a very useful article for myself. I have been suffering from some chronic minor back and leg pain for the last few months. The doctors say there is nothing they can do. They did recommend exercising and yoga. As you say though, it’s tough for beginners and the community I live in is small so instructors are limited. I am considering to try one of the online classes offered. Can you recommend a beginner class for me?

    Thanks for this, Devan.

    • Hello Devan,

Chronic minor back and leg pain is common for many people. The desire for alternative methods for coping with pain over modern drugs and medicine has continued to grow. Yoga exercising can tackle your pain non-invasively as a way to healing your pain.

Fortunately, with modern technology, you have access to online streaming yoga classes at your fingertips. All of the instructional yoga videos are taught by experienced certified yoga instructors who will guide you through step by step movements. You won’t have to worry about your level of yoga experience. I recommend for you to initially read my article “Simple Yoga Poses for Beginners” as a starting point. After you read my article, please visit “Yoga Therapeutics: Lower Body Focus” that focuses on back and leg pain.

Thank you for reaching out. Please let us know your progress in the future.
